A Memorable Visit
On a bright and inspiring day of our Foundation Day, JPA Architects had the distinct honour of hosting Dr. Mohan Agashe, a luminary whose contributions to psychiatry, theatre, and cinema have enriched Indian culture. His visit was not just a meeting but a convergence of minds—where architecture, human well-being, and creativity seamlessly intertwined.

A Glimpse into Dr. Agashe’s Legacy
Dr. Mohan Agashe is a multifaceted personality. Trained as a psychiatrist at Pune’s B.J. Medical College, he has significantly influenced mental health education and policy in Maharashtra. Beyond his medical expertise, Dr. Agashe is a celebrated actor and theatre artist, known for his roles in both Marathi and Hindi cinema along with Marathi theatre. His accolades include the Padma Shri (1990) and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1996), Goethe Medal (2004), Punya Bhushan Award (2023), etc. to name a few which underscore his dual impact on healthcare and the performing arts.
The Intersection of Architecture and Well-being
At JPA Architects, we believe that design transcends aesthetics—it shapes experiences and nurtures well-being. Dr. Agashe’s visit was a testament to this philosophy. Engaging in thoughtful discussions with our founder, Jyoti Panse, and the team, he emphasized the profound connection between built environments and mental health. His insights resonated with our commitment to creating spaces that are not only functional and beautiful but also conducive to the psychological and emotional well-being of their inhabitants.
A Day of Inspiration
The day unfolded with a private interaction in our design studio, where Dr. Agashe interacted with our architects and interior designers. He shared anecdotes from his extensive experience in mental health, highlighting the importance of empathy and understanding in both healthcare and design. He shared his journey in the theatre and films, how it started and how he excelled in this craft. Dr. Agashe also shared why he produced and acted 3 films of Sumitra Bhave which emphasise the issues relating to mental health. Upon asking what his experience was when he worked with the Satyajit Ray. Dr. Agashe summed up that he learnt all that he had to by working with Satyajit Ray. Dr. Agashe’s presence was a reminder of the power of human connection and the role of thoughtful design in fostering it.
Reflecting on the Visit
Dr. Agashe’s visit to JPA Architects was more than an event—it was a dialogue between disciplines, a meeting of minds dedicated to enhancing human experience. It reinforced our belief that architecture is not just about constructing buildings but about crafting environments that support and uplift the human spirit.
Not once, during the entire visit of Dr. Agashe did we feel that we are talking to one of the stalwarts of Theatre & Films, he made all of us comfortable while talking to him with his graceful yet humorous words. We are grateful for the opportunity to host Dr. Agashe and look forward to continuing our journey of designing spaces that harmonize form, function, and well-being.
